Online Role-Playing Guide - For New Role-Players
Role-playing is easy. It really is. All it takes is imagination, if you got it, and still don't know how to role-play, this guide will make things real easy for you.
First, you have to be imaginative enough to create a character. You give that character a name, traits (is he well-mannered? rude?) and just as importantly, you give him history. You get to understand your character, what is his origin? What did he do day to day? What shaped his personality, and what is he really like inside? He may be complex, he may be simple. There are many ways to design a character, and once you do it, you simply act that character out.
How do you act him out? The same way I'm communicating with you right now, through text! You type what he has to say. And voila, you're role-playing him. But, what if you want describe an an action? You simply type the text between asterisk.
For instance, if you wanted your character to say hello, and then smile, type the following:
Hello *smiles*
Little by little, you can make your emotes more complex, as well as your character and your overall role-play. Now you know all there really is to know about role-playing, and you can start doing it. Just remember, the point of role-playing is fun, otherwise there's no purpose to doing it. So, create a character that gives you joy. It is also important to give your character goals, so you have a reason to continue role-playing. Remember - in our gameworld, The Uncharted Midlands: Last Gate, you can only play one character at a time.
And, as you can tell, it's important to be at least somewhat familiar with the settings, and its background. There are many fantasy settings, and in many of them magic is a common things and gods are very real and intervene in the affairs of mortals. So, make sure you understand the settings first. In our case, we've written our own mythology and laid it out here.
Certain gameworlds, like ours, will have rules about new characters and will enforce role-playing. Make sure you follow them in our rules section. There are also rules to gameplay, for instance, you are not allowed to talk out-of-character, unless there's an important message you want to deliver, in which case there is a way to do it too via private messaging.
Enjoy role-playing, it's all about fun.
